Excursion
The conference program offers a choice of two memorable excursions: a guided mudflat walk in the unique Wadden Sea region or an engaging city tour of the Hanseatic city of Bremen.
Wadden Sea Walk
The Wadden Sea is a globally unique coastal landscape that is constantly shaped by the interaction of tides. It is one of the most important and species-rich ecosystems on Earth, playing a vital role in coastal protection and serving as a key habitat for millions of migratory birds. At low tide, the sea retreats and reveals the seabed, opening up a fascinating world of sand, mud, and small marine life. A guided mudflat walk offers the opportunity to experience this remarkable environment on foot. Accompanied by knowledgeable guides, participants explore the mudflats and learn about wildlife, plants, and tidal dynamics. The walk provides a rare perspective on the sea and its constant change. At the same time, it offers a relaxed setting for exchange and shared experience. The Wadden Sea is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and of outstanding ecological importance. The mudflat walk uniquely combines nature experience, knowledge, and community.
!! Please note that the mudflat walk is suitable only for participants with good mobility; the walk is conducted barefoot, and participants should expect their feet to become muddy!!
City Tour Bremen
Bremen is a historic Hanseatic city with a rich maritime tradition and a vibrant cultural life. Situated along the River Weser, the city has long been an important centre of trade and exchange. Its well-preserved old town reflects centuries of history, from medieval merchant houses to impressive civic architecture. A guided city tour offers an excellent introduction to Bremen’s heritage and character. Participants explore key landmarks such as the Market Square, the Town Hall, and the stone Roland statue. The Roland, together with the Town Hall, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and symbolizes civic freedom and independence. Along the way, the guide provides insights into the city’s history, politics, and everyday life. The tour also highlights Bremen’s role as an international trading city. It provides a relaxed and engaging setting for conversation and networking.
